Ponniyin Selvan Part 2 is all set to release in theatres on April 28. Just like the first part, Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release in five languages, namely, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Composer AR Rahman, editor Sreekar Prasad and cinematographer Ravi Varman are part of the technical crew. The film is jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
Director Mani Ratnam completed the shooting of Ponniyin Selvan (Both Parts) in just 150 days. It was originally intended to be a single film but later it was split into two parts.
Ponniyin Selvan is a historical fiction novel by Indian author Kalki Krishnamurthy, written in Tamil. It was first serialized in the weekly editions of Kalki, a Tamil magazine, from 29 October 1950 to 16 May 1954 and later integrated into five volumes in 1955.

The film will continue to focus on Arulmozhi Varman, and his journey to becoming the Chola empire's greatest ruler Rajaraja Chola I. The second part is also expected to focus on the flashback story of Vikram aka Aditya Karikalan.
